Statement from Vivian’s Law Regarding the Sentencing of Michael Mayor
Troy, Ohio, August 05, 2025 - Today our family failed to get justice due to the inadequacies of the Ohio Revised Code. On December 19th, 2024 we lost our bright sustaining light, Vivian Gardner due to the despicable and heinous acts of violence committed by the hands of Mr. Michael Mayor and what we perceived to be the negligence of Mrs. Michelle Mayor. In just 15 years, Mr. Mayor may be free to rejoin society, to be around children once more. To date, Mrs. Mayor has faced no criminal consequences. That is why over the last 7 months we have met with members of the Ohio Legislature to pursue reforms that will ensure that the punishments for violent crimes are commensurate with the impact they have on victims, their families, and our communities.
About Vivian’s Law: Our goals are to increase penalties for perpetrators of felonious assault when the felonious assault leaves the victim in a persistent vegetative state, mildly conscious state, or with irreversible paralysis. We are pushing to clarify existing language in the Ohio Revised Code to ensure that murdering a child under the age of 16 years of age constitutes aggravated murder in the Buckeye State and strengthen penalties for child care providers who neglect their duty to care.
